BoomBox

Sup Gang

This weekend my buddy Chas rolled up to the 401 and with him came my introduction to a dope up and coming Electro-Duo:

BoomBox
BoomBox consists of two DJ's: Russ Randolph and Zion Rock Godchaux
"Together they develop an electronic blend of vintage Rock and Blues made to move dance floors while incorporating their signature Backbeat, Psychedelia and Funky House sounds. Applying a multi-track platform, they are free to create their hybrid style on the fly with a rhythm that moves fans and opens them up to Godchaux and Randolph’s overall vision. Derived from the rich musical history of Muscle Shoals, AL, to the psychedelic rock and underground electronic scenes of the west coast, their unique approach can only be achieved by the blending of sound and culture."

Diplo & Odd Future @FunFunFunFest

For all you techno fans and hip hop fans you should be watching the live stream of Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin on Pitchfork TV. FunFunFunFest Live Stream it's absolutely F***ING NUTS. Flying Lotus just absolutely killed it with a DJ set I had no idea he was capable of and sounded just like what I think the late great JDilla would sound like if he were alive today. Diplo is already dropping dubstep beats and going HAM right off the bat. And the one and only ODD FUTURE WGKTA is on after that and you know that's bound to be absolute INSANITY. Anyway GO WATCH THESE SETS RIGHT NOW.

Hyundai RE:GENERATION

For all you techno/house-heads CHECK THIS OUT!! Hyundai has partnered with the a few the hottest and most influential DJ's on the scene right now to promote their latest vehicle (the Veloster?)

The roster includes Pretty Lights, SKRILLEX, DJ Premier, Crystal Method, aaaaand Mark Ronson! One of my personal favorites. This is an unbelievable lineup but the catch is where it's at. Each DJ is going to be partnered with a different style of music from SKRILLEX + Rock (with The Doors!), to DJ Premier + Classical (with the Berklee Symphony Orchestra). The lineup also includes Jazz and Country and a lineup of collaborators including Nas, Erykah Badu, and Leann Rimes.

Definitely worth a look.

Playin' Catch Up

What's up. after two 8 hour drives in 3 days to and from Martha's Vineyard for the weekend, its time to update everybody. Here we go, news, events, and tracks from the music world that you need to know about.

Justice. Props to Squires for picking up on this right when I did. To suppliment his post I've got some great news and a preview of every song on the album for you haters. Supposed to come out October 24th, pre-order it on itunes or beatport now. It's gonna be sick. This preview should be all that you need to realize that. To repeat that, this is the whole album in one track. major gold find.

Skrillex. Just got word from his twitter feed that his new album (you know the one that got stolen by some douche, and he reconstructed it from scratch in 4 months, yeah that one), is set to release by the END OF THE MONTH, or he hinted that he might release it for FREE if he can't meet that deadline. Been waiting on this one for a long time. Here's a treat he's been playing at live shows lately.

Aight heres some new tracks you haven't heard and should definitly add to that wild playlist I know u got going in Itunes.

1. Pitbull remixed by Afrojack. Not what you were expecting, sounds like Avicii as opposed to his typical tracks. This ones a banger for your DJ sets and right around midnight on the weekend parties.

2. Kids at the Bar have been cranking out some bomb remixes of all genres in Electronic. This one would have been girl fire, except for the MASSIVE DROP at 0:58. Blow your clothes off massive. This ones a keeper.

3. This ones an oldie (relatively) but you need to drop this. Place goes absolutely buckwild everytime. Kap Slap and 3LAU, two of the best in the game going hard. Turbulence blasting away at your brain while the lyrics make you dance your face off. Here we go.

Concerts
Aight, so heres whats on my agenda of people to see, places to go in the next few months. First up, Dancegiving (Wolfgang and Porter Robinson) then Fall Massive in DC. Dubstep all day. Then in October, Aviici and Armin Van Buuren at Glow in DC, they're gonna be huuuuuuge. Unfortunately I found out abou skrillex and 12th planet late, and missed tickets. Ah well, theres plenty of good shit coming up, check out whats in your are and see for yourself. All this doesn't even compare to a live show, so please pay these guys some support and show up for the time of your life.

Thats all for now,

Music Updates

Save this Date. October 25, 2011. Itunes. Kaskade. Fire and Ice. For those of you out of the loop, this is the release date for Kaskade's new album, Fire and Ice, which will be comprised of songs he's been playing on tour recently including Eyes, and Turn It Down (2 tracks that have been tearing it up). And today on twitter he released a sneak peak of another song on the album, labeled How Long. I can't wait for another smash hit by undoubtedly the best American DJ.

Much Love,
Chris

Long post is Loooooooooong

I've been on a hiatus lately from posting, and theres no excuse for that. But I do come bringing gifts. Here's my personal picks for the week. I'm bringing old, new, and just plain cool to your music library this week. This is Chris' Picx part 2. Enjoy.

First up, a new twist on a golden oldie by Boston, Long Time. Anger Dimas and Static Revenger to thank for this amazing track.

Next. A great track that gives you everything to like about Wolfgang Gartner in one song. Created by a guy who goes by the name Prototype Raptor (best.name.ever.), this is one to immediately add to your library.

Dowload here:

Everyone knows the name if not the music of Jefferson Airplane, especially this song. With that in mind, I stumbled upon this yesterday on soundcloud. Its filthy sounding dubstep. Completely not what I was expecting. Wild.

Download here:

Next is a rare thing from me, a preview of a track. I usually wait until the full song is released, but I can't this time, its too good already not to know about it. Real chill remix by Minnesota, one of the few that can create dubstep that lowers your pulse instead of making you go crazy. Great work once again. Loving the vocals on this one.

The first mash-up of this post, and its a doozie. Combining Calvin Harris and Arty for a soft house track that is greta for driving or just chillin out. Here ya go, its called Feels so Close to Kate.

Next mash-up needs no explination. Knife Party, Skrillex, Feed Me. Yeah. Have Fun.

Watch the Throne came out, sold out and now we're onto the stage of remixing tracks from the album. Usually rap and dubstep don't go well together, heres one that does. Great mixing by Voodoo Farm, just enough to change the song but keep the integrity of what it was before.

Essential Mix

I personally love driving, so when I find a concert set available for download, I tend to drive for hours just to listen to the show and jam out. One of the best places to find larger tracks and bigger sets for your music library is the Essential Mix on Radio 1. The Essential Mix is a show created by BBC Radio 1 in the '90's to showcase sets by electronic and alternative artists. It is currently hosted by the Legendary Pete Tong, and has had guests like Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Jaris Voorn, Justice, Pendulum, Wolfgang Gartner, Kaskade, Tiesto and many more. These typically 1 to 2 hour sets given to BBC1 by the artist are a look into the production of each artist when they're at a live show, or if you just want to hear a mix of great songs played by a great DJ or artist. So here we go, a short sampling of the great mixes out there from BBC Radio 1 with Pete Tong.
